I bought two broken white DS's from the local classifieds for $50. I was able to repair the first one real easy. When I opened the case, a small surface mount inductor -- L2 (next to power switch) -- fell out. I soldered the bad boy back in and the thing works great! So I got my $50 worth. I used the other one to replace my broken power switch on my own DS, and selling the rest on eBay. Much thanks to Sean for his soldering skills with that switch.

so i was reading up on how to charge batteries and went to take my battery charger apart... and realized when i was drunk this weekend i put normal alkaline AA's in my NiMH charger. i felt them, they weren't warm... they did not explode... maybe i was lucky, but they were at a healthy 1.72 V! i won't go into details but it's possible to charge them. a couple manufacturers make chargers for normal batteries, and some people call them scams. of course, it works, but it's not ideal. they apparently don't charge many times (on the order …

I bought a cheap gameboy advance flashcart on dealextreme[pic] for $9.21 with free shipping. I also have a EZ FLASH 3-in-1, it's $20 and it's great, but this would be to loan to friends or even give away...

It's 128Mbit (16MiB) and has some SRAM (256KB). The problem? Parallel port linker which required a GBA! Your PC uses the GBA to actually program it. My solution? Write a small program to do that for ya... Too bad I had no information on this cart besides it says "SZcard ver.1" on the PCB.

It's nothing special, but it works here. I'm actually writting this from work! It's much slower than normal browsing. Could be a few things. My server might be slow (yah it prob is, it's cheap!) and every little HTTP connection turns into a encrypted HTTPS tunnel with key exchanges and encryption for the smallest of files... That's where I'd assume most of the overhead is. A single connection which stays open and tunnels traffic may do better -- PuTTY/ssh does that very nicely. They're used so you don't visit sites you're not suppose to. It's really easy with all the CGI proxies out there to get around them, but they aren't 100% functional. SSH over HTTP proxy usually works, but this time for me it did not. I suppose it was because an SSH server starts the connection with a version identifier, and the HTTP proxy did not like that. with limited budget and no xenia available, i added Golden Polyps to my tank this weekend (Saturday night). didn't upload pics because it wasn't working for some reason. i still don't think it's gonna work, grr!!! i don't feel like messing with it. like the link for the hi-res pic i was able to get on tinypic.com. i also added 2 scarlet hermits. they're nice. no more snails... and my shrimp has molted again! that makes what, 4 now? hrm!

they did not have xenia at that fish place this weekend, and i had a tight budget. i got golden polyps, 2 scarlet hermits, and a 50gal bag of reef crystals. it's amazing how cheap it is for the big bag. it's like $9 for 10gal box, $10 for 25gal box, and $11.89 for the 50gal bag. so why not? it'll last forever at approx 2-2.5gal per water change a week... heh. that'll last me like, half a year! :) here's the polyps freshly added:
